Flashback to Aug 2011...a lovely couple called Summer and Pete are getting married in Lochside House Hotel. One of the guests, Shelagh, watched the evening unfold with a wee glint in her eye- Jiggered Ceilidh Band were impressing her but would her fiance (who'd only been to one ceilidh before) go for it? She managed to convince him that Jiggered would do a great job of entertaining their guests.
Flashforward to July 2012...the couple have Jiggered performing at their wedding at The Dunkeld Hilton and by the end of the evening it's the groom who's over telling us how fantastic he thinks we were: "I've only been to one ceilidh in my life and you blew that band out of the water"! There were some memorable dancers at this wedding, that's for sure- one woman who I'm guessing had consumed about a gallon of Red Bull before the wedding and a young couple who performed some brilliantly self-choreographed moves!
Other worthy mentions- we played as a five piece with guest musician Joseph Hamilton playing for the first half. Joseph plays with Sporran Again from time to time but might play some more gigs in the future for Jiggered. In the meantime check out this video of him playing guitar on the beach- it is awesome. Also, the men's toilets had this photo in front of the urinals. One thing I don't know: if this was intentionally positioned. One thing I do (now) know: you get some funny looks taking pictures in public toilets.

Luxury mansion Enterkine House is another Ayrshire gem which more folk should know about. Jiggered Ceilidh Band were asked to play at this outrageously nice venue (check out the main website for shots of the House itself but also you should see the Woodland Lodge for an incredible honeymoon hideaway) for Matt and Lydia's wedding.
Matt and Lydia had spent a lot of the day outside- thankfully this was one of the few sunny days in our Scottish "summer". Evening celebrations were in the marquee and we our two sets went down very well with a couple of guests asking where to buy Jiggered's albums. Sorry, you can't buy a Jiggered CD but two alternatives if you're desperate to listen to Scotland's premier ceilidh band:
2. You can book us up to play for you [remember that Hogmanay 2012 is still available if you want us to come and play in your hotel, sports club, living room, garden, car, marquee, bathroom, castle, farm, treehouse, submarine, concert hall, football stadium, town hall, prison cell...]

Bethany and Colin have been to a load of Jiggered Ceilidh Band's gigs over the years. When they decided to tie the knot, we were delighted that this lovely couple decided to book us up for their wedding in Troon Concert Hall (an ever-increasingly popular venue). It was a great evening with plenty familar faces and a steady stream of dancers filling the dancefloor, from the first dance to the last. Bethany and Colin had asked for us to do our version of Jack Johnson's "Better Together" which sounded great thanks to Jenny's vocals and Chris' new piano making its debut.
During the break, we nipped out to local chip shop "The Fish House" which was superb. As I waited for my prawn tempura supper (posher than your average chippy!) some inebriated locals performed sign language in the window. Always wanting to make new friends, I returned the gesture by doing the classic "going down the stairs/using the elevator" routine. Eventually, they came in to chat to Susan whose accent immediately gave her away as being from Canada (!). We played along, even though Sheffield is not right next to Vancouver. The memorable exchange ended with a big hug and me being called a b****g (presumably alluding to last December's hurricane- an unforgettable life-changing event).
We wish Mr and Mrs McCaw all the best and we'll no doubt catch up at another ceilidh or when the roll is called up yonder...

As you drive through Kilbirnie past the police station and through a housing estate, you don't expect to end up driving up towards a beautiful mansion set in stunning gardens. But Moorpark House is exactly that. Get inside and there are grand hallways and oppulent sitting rooms...It's not Jiggered Ceilidh Band's first trip to this increasingly popular wedding venue, as our main website photo reveals! We had a chat with the owner before starting the ceilidh and he was urging us to "energise the crowd" as he'd experienced a lack of enthusiasm and empty dancefloors in previous ceilidhs. No such problems at Josie and Chris' wedding where the floor was packed. The crowd particularly enjoyed our closing set of waltz, Adele's Make you feel my love, Deacon Blue's Dignity, Orchadian Strip the Willow, Auld Lang Syne, Proclaimer's 500 miles and finishing with Florence and the Machine's You got the love (the song the bride and groom had also requested for their first dance). A great evening!

Three weddings in the space of a week without Chris? The seemingly unthinkable became reality this week as I visited the isle of Samos, checking out Pythagoras' house- not as many right angles as I'd expected... But when I returned it was as if I'd never left- cue the distinctive harmonies to Jenny's melodic vocals, unmistakable vamping and boundless, enthusiastic energy (perhaps a surprise since I'd just finished a week trekking through the Antarctic).
We'd arrived at Piersland House Hotel for Dave and Fiona's wedding. Dave was an old school friend of mine and it was great to play for the happy couple and so many familiar faces from Newmilns (nice to catch up with Mr McCallum,a mentor to me when I was doing teacher training, the Hamilton clan who all seem to remember me being quite the soccer star in my youth *good look with the eBay selling Jonathan...and be careful with your spelling*, Richard my neighbour and a proper musician, Ewan Bennet one of the nicest laser geeks you'll ever meet, the Patrick crew who were loving the Jiggered sound- we got a standing ovation, my colleague Bel and her husband...).
Today's a big day for Raymie who's all excited as his guilty pleasure (Roger Federer) is in action in the Wimbledon final against Scotland's Andy Murray! Jenny's the new owner of probably the cheesiest keyring ever. Meanwhile, Ewan is on a strict detox and is also going cold turkey from his blogging while I take over again for a while. I've set up an online poll to see who the public want to do our blogging...Click here and then tweet/text/vote online!

Last night Jiggered headed to the Roman Camp Hotel, Callander for a second consecutive night of ceilidhing. It was our first time at this venue and we were all impressed by the riverside setting, homely interiors…and of course the pink paint!! Something to do with the hotel name?!
This time it was the wedding of Tim and Kirsten Lochhead and it was great for me personally to see so many friends, family and familiar faces. The dance floor was full for every dance, and the atmosphere was fantastic. It's safe to say that Tim, Kirsten and their guests have set the standard high for the rest of this summer's Jiggered wedding ceilidhs!
Big thanks to Stephen Watson who graced the Keys for the 3rd and final time this week and took things to a whole new level! Raymie Watson also made his Violin comeback and will be out with us again this Saturday as Jiggered head back west side to the Piersland House, Troon.
And finally, some sad news. Chris gets back from Ibiza this Saturday and will be re-claiming his position as first pianist, which means my short-lived blog writing career has now come to an end. Thanks for reading!

It seems like only a few weeks ago since Jiggered headed down to Ayrshire for a wedding at Brig O'Doon. Oh wait...it was!
This time it was the wedding of Cameron and Kim. It was a lovely evening and the guests really enjoyed the Jiggered sets. The bride even busted a few moves to some of our covers!
Not only was it a great night for a wedding, it was a great night for celebrity look-a-likes! Amongst the guests we spotted Scotland's very own SuBo, Geordie comedian Sarah Millican and Hagrid off of Harry Potter fame! This lead to some shocking admissions from Stephen Watson regarding his passion for Susan Boyle... I didn't quite know what to say!! Nevertheless, Stephen gave another outstanding performance whilst standing in for Chris.
It's getting increasingly rare for Jiggered to play at a Scottish venue that we've not been to before, but, tonight, Ceilidh 2 of 3 for the week is at the Roman Camp Hotel, Callander. Some of my relatives are going to be there so I better be on my best behaviour! ;)

Last night Jiggered got all saddled up and galloped along to Hamilton Park Racecourse for the wedding celebration of Scott and Natalie, who were celebrating with friends and family this side of the Atlantic following their marriage ceremony in the Bahamas!
It was definitely a night of firsts for Jiggered, despite it coming up to our 10 year anniversary as a band. Stephen Watson made his Jiggered debut and did a great job standing in for Chris, who left yesterday for a "quiet" weekend with the girls in Magaluf (sure Chris!). As a result, I am making my blog writing debut! At the break we got our photos taken in an actual photobooth (courtesy of Silly Snapz - photos on Facebook soon) and were also served Fillippo's ice cream from an actual ice cream stand - two more Jiggered firsts!
Noticeably it was our first ever Dashing White Sergeant with just one set and first ever Orcadian Strip The Willow with just one couple - who attempted some Michael Jackson Thriller moves. Classic!
Big thanks to Scott and Natalie for having us and we wish the happy couple all the best for the future!
The band are now laying low for a couple of days and re-charging their batteries, with 3 ceilidhs coming up this week alone - all of which are weddings. Tis the season...and we love it!
