Why should Scotland get exclusivity on Jiggered Ceilidh Band's music?! This weekend we went on a roadtrip down to Norfolk for James and Janine's wedding. We were playing in The Red Barn which is a fantastic venue that has belonged to owner Richard's family for decades but in recent time has been transformed from a storage facility for machinery to an exclusive wedding venue.
Earlier in 2013, we played at Elaine and Alan's wedding way up in Aberdeen (incidentally, the prize from our amazing competition from that wedding has still to be won). Elaine and Janine are sisters and it was lovely to be able to play at both their weddings in the same year! And the family have looked after us incredibly at both events.
The road trip down was fun. Weird conversations (about food families and neon fashion to name just two). Stand in fiddler Claire appeared to suffer from food tourettes but this appeared to be a temporary condition. We were treated to a three course meal when we arrived at the venue...yum. The ceilidh was brilliant- the crowd were loving it and we had a blast. Oooh la la.
I got my photo taken with Dick from "Dick and Dom". Actually this guest was just a taller lookalike but the resemblance was striking!
Glad to say we survived our evening in Spalding afterwards (Ewan, in particular, was excited that there was a "Gap" store right next to our Travel Lodge!). The journey home was smooth as Emma"I can sleep through anything" Brockett will testify.
Apologies to the band who will have been expecting some Norfolk punnery. I chickened out.

I know regular followers of the Jiggered Ceilidh Band blog will be a bit surprised that I'm only just now getting round to writing about last night's ceilidh but I've had a busy day....cut me some slack please!
Anyhoo...Dunblane Hydro (or DoubleTree by Hilton, Dunblane Hydro as it's called these days!) was the venue for Ryan and Pami's wedding. It was a huge wedding and the Hydro was an ideal setting for the size of crowd. Ryan and Pami had really clear ideas about how they wanted their wedding to go (the treated their guests to a photo booth experience, tubs of luxurious ice cream, a buffet with bacon rolls, sausage rolls and perfectly-cooked-yolk-still-runny-fried-egg rolls) and they asked us to do three specific first dances!
First, a bride and groom dance (a cover of Snow Patrol's "Chasing Cars"). Secondly, a dance for the wedding party (our version of Rihanna's "We Found Love"). Finally, a father-daughter dance (Heartland's "I loved her first"). Even though this was the least well known it went really well- there were tears and I'm sure Jiggered will use this one again!
A brilliant crowd, grateful couple and even some nice Facebook feedback after it!
A weekend off now, before our adventure to Norfolk for a wedding...

You don't expect good ceilidh bands to grow on trees but this blog photo will change your mind! It was taken last night at the Shawlands Park Hotel, which has been transformed in recent years into a really modern, beautiful venue. Jiggered Ceilidh Band were, of course, the chosen source of ceilidh entertainment for Joanna and Anthony's wedding. Father of the bride, Kevan, is one of our biggest fans and we've been able to play for him on a few occasions!
Keen ceilidhers, appreciative audience, a sugar-rush candy bar, tasty buffet rolls....there was plenty to love about this event. It was also the return of Susan after her maternity and to have her back is Jiggered-tastic: the fantastic four reunited!

Last night's ceilidh action saw Jiggered Ceilidh Band visiting the Edinburgh Marriot for the wedding of Janette and Rocky. This is actually the first time we've played at this venue. We played a couple of 1 hour ceilidh sets with the DJ providing music for the rest of the evening (including during the buffet which was yummy!).
By the end of the night we'd recruited a few new Jiggered fans with requests for our business cards, enquiries about whether we have an album out and at least one new member on the Jiggered Facebook page! Special mention goes to Sarah who did a great job of recruiting dancers for the ceilidh dances during the night!
Thanks for booking us, Janette. We wish you all the best. And Rocky two :)

Emma's childhood friend Louise was marrying Joshua and they called upon Jiggered Ceilidh Band to provide the ceilidh action to round off their fantastic wedding day. They asked us to play "Can't take my eyes off you" for their first dance...for such a wedding classic it was strange we'd never done it before. Emma did a great job!
Loads of people chatted to us at the break and during the evening to say how much they enjoyed the Jiggered sound- always nice to hear! And Ewan deviated slightly from his diet to tuck into some of the wedding cake (made by the bride). Ewan declared it the best chocolate cake he ever tried at a wedding (no mean feat since we've been doing these for 11 years) and is determined to get the recipe!
Superb night- all the best to Mr and Mrs Cowpland.
