Jiggered celebrate wedding St Andews University

Jiggered celebrate wedding St Andews University

Katy and Yiannis recently married in Cyprus. But you can't have a real wedding without a ceilidh afterwards...! So they hired Jiggered to provide this vital component to the wedding celebrations.

St Andrews University was the venue: specifically the Upper College Halls. Wandering through the starlit quadrangle would have been much more enjoyable if we hadn't been humphing all the drums, speakers and instruments! Still, it's a lovely spot and this ceilidh crowd were worth it! From the first dance - we performed Jason Mraz' "I won't give up" while the bride and groom expertly executed their choreographed masterpiece- to the big finale of the evening (a monstrous orchadian strip the willow, auld lang syne and loch lomond- the Scottish/Cypriot crowd were totally up for the ceilidh. A pleasure to play for.

Raymie was filling in for Susan as she popped down to see her folks in Sheffield (which was a bit of a shame as we'd played at Morven's wedding 11 years ago and she was there last night)! But a brilliant evening. Lots of laughs. Thanks for having us!

Jiggered play double 21st birthday ceilidh

Jiggered play double 21st birthday ceilidh

Shannon and Demi's 21st celebations were held in Castlecary Hotel. These twins had a load of family and friends gathered togther for a unique party. The theme was "Gatsby" and everyone had made a proper effort to dress up accordingly. It made the whole evening dead entertaining!

Shannon wanted a ceilidh so we kicked off the evening and Demi had her heart set on a disco so after our set and the buffet the DJ took over.

We had a fun night...lots of familiar Lockes in the crowd and Joy who booked us almost 10 years ago for her wedding!

Happy birthday Shannon and Demi!

Jiggered play for GO! Youth Trust

Jiggered play for GO! Youth Trust

This photo shows how folk feel when they realise a Jiggered ceilidh is finished...bravely holding back the tears but hardly masking their disappointment that the joyous celebrations were over!

Let me paint you a picture of our latest ceilidh. It was a fundraiser for GO! Youth Trust who do a brilliant job helping young people, and its supporters were decorated with awards by Dave Bremner. It was a privilege to brush shoulders with these incredibly generous and inspirational volunteers and young people.

I don't want to gloss over our Jiggered chat at the start of the night but sharper readers might have spotted the references to what Ewan wll be doing in his living room this week!

Carnoustie Golf Hotel Wedding for Jiggered

Carnoustie Golf Hotel Wedding for Jiggered

Kirsty and Mark booked us up for their wedding at the hotel at Carnoustie Golf Course. They were absolutely adamant they wanted to kick off the evening with all of their guests joining them in the Gay Gordons rather than have a first dance. So we did exactly that. However, there were a few times when the newlyweds took to the floor during the evening to dance together to some of their favourites...they could totally have pulled off a lovely first dance!

There's no doubt that while many familiar faces were giving Jiggered the thumbs up, we've also collected a fair few new fans last night too...with enquiries of bookings for 2019 and 2020 on the cards.

A brilliant evening- great chat with Team Jiggered.

Jiggered Ceilidh Band at CAP fundraiser

Jiggered Ceilidh Band at CAP fundraiser

We've been doing a bit of recording recently (keep your eyes peeled for some exciting new Jiggered content we'll be unveiling soon). It was nice to be back performing live to a crowd of ceilidhers!

This time we were in East Kilbride for a fundraiser. The charity CAP (Chrstians Against Poverty) do a fantastic job helping folk get free from debt and stabilise their financial situation. They've had a fair bit of publicity recently through the BBC's programme Debt Saviours https://capuk.org/debtsaviours and it was a joy to play at this event raising money for CAP.

It's been a while since I've been asked for so many business cards so it looks like we'll be playing again for a few of these guests in the future!

The buffet looked amazing but Team Jiggered had already feasted at the Stirlings...thanks Susan.

Jiggered back at Beancross for Found Church Ceilidh

Jiggered back at Beancross for Found Church Ceilidh

Performing at weddings is always a privilege. But we don't have any clients who routinely get married over and over (thankfully)!

It's also a real honour to be involved in ceilidhing again and again for folk like Found Church. They have us at their big church ceilidh regularly and it's lovely to come back to see the same faces dancing about and finding out what's been happening since our last visit. Beancross is a superb venue and the food's ace.

Looking forward to Michelle getting in touch when it's time for the next one.

Jiggered Ceilidh Band back at Crutherland for Wedding!

Jiggered Ceilidh Band back at Crutherland for Wedding!

It's hard to beat the MacDonald CrutherlandHouse for us.

Convenient loading access for equipment, it's handy to get to for us, the room is superb for a ceilidh, they do cracking tattie scones as part of the buffet and you can play board games in the lounge!

Philip and Jacqueline booked us for their wedding and the crowd were fantastic. Some had jetter over from New York for the wedding and others had travelled up from England too. And what a Scottish celebration we had. The floor was packed for every dance and it's always reassuring when the groom exerts himself so much that his shirt is drenched in sweat and he needs to have a lie down on the dance floor!!

Another ceilidh masterclass.

All the best Mr and Mrs Anderson!

Jiggered Ceilidh Band Wedding at Greyfriars Kirk

Jiggered Ceilidh Band Wedding at Greyfriars Kirk

Three ceilidhs in a row...and every one was absolutely brilliant!

The latest in the trilogy was Ed and Sarah's wedding at the famous Greyfriars Kirk (made famous thanks to Greyfriars Bobby)! The venue is stunning both historically and architecturally. And it was the perfect venue for hundreds of guests to really get into the ceilidh action.

First dance was a Jiggered first: "Son of a Preacher Man". And it went down a storm. The whole evening was awesome and we absolutely loved it. There was some rather amazing dance moves on display. Most notably, one dancer was enthusistically demonstrating her "worm" technique! Ewan captured this beautifully on video- I'll try and share it with you sometime.

Wishing the happy couple all the very best for the future!

And I won't even mention Ewan's run-in with the Edinburgh police at the end of the night....

Jiggered Ceilidh Band at Airth Castle Wedding

Jiggered Ceilidh Band at Airth Castle Wedding

Garry and Julie booked us up for their wedding at Airth Castle and we were absolutely delighted to play for them- what a lovely couple. They chose to kick off the evening as the first couple in a massive weaving-round-the-dance-floor Orchadian Strip the Willow which worked really well actually.

This seemed like the ceilidh where Gemma really "arrived"! Jiggered have always had serious talent fronting the band (10 years with Jenny and 5 years with Emma)...but at this wedding, the room was packed with loads of Gemma's friends and family so she wanted to prove to them live what she could do. And, unsurprisingly to the three of us, she pulled it off. Everyone was blown away by Gemma's explanations of the dances, banter with the crowd and of, of course, her voice. We're grateful for the past decade and a half and excited about the future for Jiggered (watch this space for some new stuff we have in the pipeline!)....

Jiggered Ceilidh Band LOVE The Old Fruitmarket

Jiggered Ceilidh Band LOVE The Old Fruitmarket

In the first of three consecutive nights of ceilidh action, this venue set the bar ridiculously high. Glasgow's Old Fruitmarket is simply a brilliant venue. The history, the green room, the stage, the fantastic sound guys, the space for dancing...it's pretty hard to beat.

This was another conference ceilidh and Gemma once again superbly guided the delegates through the dances even though most were complete newbies when it comes to ceilidh dances!

Next up, weddings at Airth Castle and then Greyfriars Kirk!

Jiggered Ceilidh Band at Glasgow University Union

Jiggered Ceilidh Band at Glasgow University Union

We love recurring gigs like this one at conference ceilidh at Glasgow University each year. It's for the APTS conference hosted by the Maths and Stats department and is held in the Union. The room's great but the postgraduate students are even more amazing. Most have never ceilidhed in their life but Gemma guided them expertly through every dance move and the floor was packed with enthusiastic first-timers. We loved it (and obviously they did too, with a couple of offers to come and ceilidh at Oxford Uni next year!). Watch this space, folks.

Jiggered Ceilidh Band up to Aberdeen for wedding at the Rox Hotel

Jiggered Ceilidh Band up to Aberdeen for wedding at the Rox Hotel

It was a fair trek up to Aberdeen for our latest ceilidh- but totally worth it! The Dormand girls have been great supporters of Jiggered over the years but with Kirsty married off that's us left with no more of this family's weddings to play for...

The photographer for the evenig was quick to tell us that Kirsty and Callum were so smiley and easy to work with. And of course, he was spot on. The pair were super-friendly and seemed to love their big evening celebration at the Rox Hotel. It was an extra special day with the somewhat unexpected arrival of a new nephew, Harris!

Callum and Alastair were on fine form filling in for Gemma and Uee (on their overseas hols), especially during our cover-fest.

All the best to the happy couple!

Jiggered Ceilidh Band: Wedding at the Strawberry Barn!

Jiggered Ceilidh Band: Wedding at the Strawberry Barn!

Phil and Abi ("Philabi") are proper fans of ceilidh, and of Jiggered! Abi was brainwashed into loving our band from the early days when her big brother Ben used to fill in on drums. And Phil's a Maths teacher and religiously reads my Maths newsletter every week. So we were the obvious choice for their wedding, just weeks after their buddies Mr and Mrs Ward tied the knot with Jiggered providing the entertainment!

It was lovely to catch up with the Roses. They're a cracking family and we've enjoyed ceilidhing for them many times over the years. And the Strawberry Barn was a wonderful venue, too!

All the best for the future, Mr and Mrs Green!

Back to Edinburgh for Jiggered Ceilidh Band's latest Norton House Hotel wedding

Back to Edinburgh for Jiggered Ceilidh Band's latest Norton House Hotel wedding

We feel at home at Norton House Hotel- we've played many times at the beautiful Garden Suite over the years and love it. It's got a brilliant function room, nice areas for guests to break out into and lovely outside space to spill out onto on a summer's evening.

The groom and bride, Chris and Laura, run a tight ship. Punctuality is their hallmark - Laura was ready to go to the wedding ceremony hours before the guests were set to arrive! So it was no surprise the evening reception kicked off bang on time.

First dance: 1000 years. After that we had so much fun with a crowd who were up for dancing the night away and belted out our versions of classic covers and praise songs too, What an evening.

All the best for the future, Mr and Mrs Lund!

Jiggered Ceilidh Band- latest wedding at Harelaw Farm

Jiggered Ceilidh Band- latest wedding at Harelaw Farm

What a brilliant wedding.

It's obvious why Harelaw Farm is becoming an increasingly popular wedding venue- it's beautiful.
A total pleasure to play for the lovely couple: groom David and bride Jenna (one of my former students)!
The buffet featured Killie pies and (this may be a first for us) crisp sandwiches. Oh yeah.
We had our trusty media team, Stephen and Andy, capturing footage for some new videos (watch this space).
Some guests were a wee bit distracted by a certain World Cup match between Croatia and England. (2-1 in case you missed it).
Bumping into the Scottish Headteacher of the Year, Mrs Shedden.
Great dancing all night- this crowd were a class act.

Thanks for having us, Mr and Mrs Church. All the very best for the future!

Jiggered Ceilidh Band- Leaving Do in Kilmarnock

Jiggered Ceilidh Band- Leaving Do in Kilmarnock

Ceilidhing can be a dangerous hobby. Energetic dancing can lead to bruises, bumps and grazes as folk clatter about on the dance floor. Tonight it was burns that were unavoidable at this ceilidh. Thankfully it was the Burns family who were the star attraction. David, Esther and their lovely family are leaving Kilmarnock to start a new life much further up north. Their friends at Central Evnagelical Church had organised a fantastic leaving do for them and the evening was simply brilliant.

It was brilliant seeing so many familiar faces. Young kids spilled onto the floor in between each dance to play tig, to emulate their World Cup heros and to dance about. The buffet was super and their was even a Burns-themed quiz to get the brains in gear.

Wishing the Burns all the best, and God's blessing as they head off very soon! Thanks for having us.

Jiggered Ceilidh Band Conquer Ireland!

Jiggered Ceilidh Band Conquer Ireland!

What a weekend. Nicola's mum had asked her "Why do you want a band to come all the way from Glasgow to play at your wedding here in Ireland?". Fair question. Nicola's response: "Because there's no band that can do what Jiggered do!". That should really be the end of this blog and maybe our website tagline from now on!!

Nicola had heard us play at her friends' wedding back in 2016! Hollie and Terry had married in Edinburgh and it was great to catchup with them at Joe and Nicola's marriage celebrations.

The venue was over in the luxurious Markree Castle, nr Sligo. It's a total beauty and we were treated like special guests all weekend.

The wedding was a belter from the first dance (we learned "Loving you" by Paolo Nutini and it went down a storm) to the last energetic Loch Lomond.

So many excellent memories from this one: epic roadtrips, ferry shenanigans, snooker triumphs, theological barnstormers, Uno championships, grateful clients, massive dugs, barrels of laughs. A brilliant Jiggered experience travelling across Ireland.

Many thanks to Joe and Nicola for having us- we wish you all the very best for the future!

Jiggered Ceilidh Band survive midge attack for Kinlochard Wedding

Jiggered Ceilidh Band survive midge attack for Kinlochard Wedding

Chris 1 (groom) and Claire booked us up for their wedding at Kinlochard Village Hall- a lovely wee venue with stunning views. Their first dance "I will" by the Beatles was immediately followed by a wee surprise: Chris 2 (guest) joining Jiggered on stage to form a makeshift blues band and perform crowd favourite "La la blues", while Chris 3 (jiggered) frantically tried to balance the levels. It sounded amazing- maybe we should invite Chris 2 to all our gigs!

The evening was relaxed as gigs milled about the Hall, enjoying the pull-yourself-a-pint bar and the braver ones even headed out into the midge-infested evening as the drizzle began to form on another warm Scottish summer day.

We're off to Ireland next weekend so the roof box had to be fitted to the car, ready for our roadtrip. More midges!!

We wish Mr and Mrs Bromley all the very best- spending my birthday with you guys was a pleasure...

Blairquhan Castle wedding for Jiggered Ceilidh Band

Blairquhan Castle wedding for Jiggered Ceilidh Band

May 2018 seemed to be the month for trans-atlantic weddings! Harry and Megan's royal wedding was followed up the next weekend with another American Megan getting hitched to a British groom. This time it was Gordon and the blend of Scottish and American guests made this a high energy celebration with plenty of lively dancing and jubilation!

The venue was the well hidden Blairquhan Castle, an Ayrshire gem. The stunning grounds and fdormidable castle make this a very impressive, grand setting for a wedding. Lovely. And enough trees to keep Raymie happy.

Gordon got the wedding planner Tracey to phone us after the wedding ceremony to ask if they could change their first dance plans. Previously they'd chosen "Stand by Me" to be played from an iPhone but wondered if there was a chance we could do a live version. With only a few hours to go, we accepted the challenge and we're delighted we did. The song went down a storm and provided the perfect springboard into the evening. Lots of new dances learned by the US first-timers and plenty compliments throughout the evening.

We wish Mr and Mrs Deans all the very best for their future together!

Jiggered Ceilidh Band wedding at Dumfries House

Jiggered Ceilidh Band wedding at Dumfries House

The weekend after the royal wedding, Jiggered were at Prince Charles' Ayrshire favourite: Dumfries House. It's a phenomenal venue to visit- the restoration and development of the place has been jawdropping.

Josh and Catriona had their wedding celebration in the luxurious marquee- honestly one of the best we've ever seen. They had a first dance "Your Heart Belongs to Me" which was followed up by a lively surprise..."I really like you" by Carly Rae Jepsen which was such a fun way to kick off the evening. Everyone loved it!

The crowd were keen ceilidhers, we had a brilliant night (and so did everyone else, so I'm guessing there were no Liverpool FC fans in attendance).

Buffet was top notch and the first time I've ever been served chips in a china cup. How posh.

We finished off the evening with an Orchadian, Auld lang Syne, Loch Lomond and the happy couple left through an archway- we wish Mr and Mrs Ward the best for the future.
