Jiggered's January giglist wouldn't be complete without a wee Burns Supper Ceilidh at Townhead Church in Newmilns. This is always a lively event swarming with kids and families from the town (and with a few fans from further afield popping in too).
The crowd are great, the food was a big hit (haggis, neeps and chips for tatties), the address to the haggis from Paul was entertaining as ever and of course Jiggered's music went down a storm.
Thanks to Ewan, Susan and Emma for their incredible talent and willingness to come doon to Ayrshire yet again. We love you guys!

Last night was a unique ceilidh for Jiggered. Over the years we've guided batches of ceilidh first-timers through the dances, introducing them to the inimitable fun that ceilidh brings. Our latest ceilidh, held in Murrayfield Parish Church Hall, was attended by a horde of Indian guests NONE of whom knew how to ceilidh!
Emma expertly explained and called the dances throughout our two hour set, As we were leaving, the crowd were preparing for some incredible smells of authentic Indian cuisine. But we exerted uncharacteristic restraint and bypassed the food and headed home to get some rest before another ceilidh tonight!

Professor Adam McBride OBE has inspired a generation of Mathematicians at Strathclyde, across Scotland and beyond. His enthusiasm for the subject is still incredible at the age of 70!
I was privileged to be invited by Adam and Ellen to an intimate 70th birthday bash in an appropriately-selected Edinburgh location where I provided a poetic tribute, delivered on OHP, to the great man.
Regrettably, I don't have video footage, but here is the "ODE" in full- hopefully you'll enjoy it as much as the guests did on the big day!
Happy birthday, Adam!
Today's the ideal opportunity for us to bear in mind
What it is that makes Adam C. McBride one of a kind
He's been utterly inspiring to me and hunners more
Enthusiastic, brilliant...You guys here all ken the score.
The art of communication has suffered some disjoint:
The last twa' decades we've encountered death by powerpoint.
Oor Adam won't be tempted by swooshing text and animations
He's got his trusty OHP to entertain the nations.
With pens and slides he'd bring to life some beautiful old theories
And bamboozle almost everyone with "Sequences and Series"
Generations of Strathclyders know exactly what they want
His unique distinctive handwriting as an "Adam McBride" font!
There's no question that the Professor's got his own inimitable style
On his quest to help folk out he'll go the extra mile.
Strathclyde, UKMT, SMC, IMO and schools both near and far
Are indebted for the input of this Maths-world superstar.
He's aye aff gallavanting on endless Mathsy tours
It'd take a special companion to while away the hours
While Adam's in at umpteen schools "MATHS IS BEST" is what he's telling.
Thankfully he's got his sidekick, the ever patient, natural "ln"
What a week fir birthdays...celebrating with Adam and the Queen
But as he'd want to clarify, there's 20 years between.
The Queen of course, like everyone here, is quite the Adam-fan:
She awarded him the OBE. He deserves it- whit a man.
Adam really loves to golf- did you see his birdie on the third?
And although this may seem cryptic, you'll never hear a cross word
From this classy gentleman who's patient and can be counted on to choose
Not to get 2DOWN about solving all those clues.
The word "legend" is abused these days, too easily assigned.
But for Adam it seems fitting, like for him it's been designed.
Today we mark his transition to the club septuagenarian
knowing that he likes steak "pi" too much to ever go vegetarian.
I'm sure, with me, you'd like to thank our host for this, his birthday do.
Adam, it's an honour to have a friend like you.
You still live life at hectic pace- who knows what's next in store?
But seventy years of excellence and here's to many more.
*I thought I'd post this poem here since Adam is a massive Jiggered Ceilidh Band fan and has booked us for Maths functions a few times!

It ended up a late Monday as Jiggered spent St Andrew's Evening recording some audio to accompany our soon-to-be-released promo videos. Sam Smith from Green Door Studios was our sound engineer for the evening- his mission was to try and capture the live sound of Jiggered...not a manufactured collection of individually recorded instruments but something authentic representing the warmth and energy of our collective sound! Can't wait for you to hear the finished product and see Stephen's videos too! Be patient, Jiggered fans. One before Christmas, honest.

Legendary Scottish broadcaster, journalist and face of BBC Scotland, Sally Magnusson heard Jiggered Ceilidh Band at a wedding last summer and booked us up straight away!
Laxamyri is the Icelandic home of Sally's ancestors- it's a farming estate that her great-great-great-grandfather built up which was sold on early in the 20th century. Back in 2006, the family had a massive reunion in Laxamryri and eight years on, Sally was organising the Scottish return visit. Hundreds of family members (from all over; Denmark; Iceland; Scotland;England...) piled into Gartmore House to join in the celebrations.
It was a brilliant night. The crowd were keen and appreciative, clapping and cheering as soon as we started to play a few notes. From the youngsters who bounced about to the ceilidh tunes, to the young folk who showed off some great freestyle moves, to the sprightly great-grandfather with his newly replaced knee who dispensed the walking stick to allow him to jig about, to the Scottish contingent who were demonstrating how easy ceilidh dancing is, it looked like everyone had a great time!
Sally and her husband were a pleasure to play for. The pair were extremely relaxed despite hosting this massive event. They were really friendly. We chatted for a while and I even gave Sally a wee calculation to do (although she admitted Maths isn't her strongest suit, she passed with flying colours!). And if you ever ask Sally to recommend a ceilidh band I know she'll suggest Jiggered Ceilidh Band.
Roll on the 2022 Reunion in Denmark!!

What a cracking start to Burns' Night weekend...The first instalment of a double-header for Jiggered Ceilidh Band. This one was a family ceilidh at Townhead Church, Newmilns (the same location where the new Jiggered lineup was publicly unveiled almost exactly a year ago!).
The night was packed with ceilidh action, performances of poetry and song from young and old, yummy food (haggis, neeps, tatties and Joseph's 70th birthday cake!), lots of friends, family and first-timers enjoying each other's company. Great to be able to stalk to...er...talk to Natalie and Donald who've booked us up for their wedding later this year and have been monitoring our blogs very closely!
Roll on tomorrow's ceilidh.

Sometimes you see someone at a ceilidh and you're not sure why you recognise them. At last night's ceilidh I asked one of the guests how I might recognise him. We eventually figured out where it was from- you might recognise him too!
If you think you can identify him, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org telling us who you think it is- if you’re the first to reply with the correct answer we’ll send you a Mars Bar!

Last night, Jiggered Ceilidh Band were playing at in Kirkcaldy's Beveridge Park Hotel (our second time at this venue) for the Abbotsford Care Staff Awards Night. I'll not say too much about this event other than our first set was immediately preceded by some of the staff performing their version of Gangnam Style!
Last night was a big night for Jiggered really. Since starting in 2002 we've had a few musicians who have played in the band (covering each of us while we've been on holiday or maternity leave or sabbaticals etc). Over the years, however, Jenny has been an almost ever present. She's missed only one or two gigs. Until now. Jenny is giving up and moving on. Susan, Ewan and I are going to miss our pal. We've had loads of adventures, fun and dramas. We've shared countless weekends together, late night road trips, every Hogmanay for a decade, created beautiful music for hundreds of brides and grooms....There are lots of "in jokes" and memories that I could share but not here.
Thanks for an unforgettable journey, Jenny.
Exciting days ahead though, with new recruit Emma. Woohoo!

Probably when we first started ceilidhing, we never imagined the adventures it would bring, the miles we'd cover, the venues we would play in, the folk we'd meet, the controversies we'd court or that Jiggered Ceilidh Band would still be gigging 10 years later! It's hard to judge what's the biggest highlight but one things for sure...we're still going strong- more popular than ever and with a tonne of delighted clients...That's no small claim.
So...thanks to all our fans, supporters, business partners, and past clients. Here's to another 10 years!
