A (Northern) Irish Jig
Gig number 2 this past weekend took us to Ballymena in Northern Ireland to play for Jack and Courtney’s big day! The Sheddings, set in the grounds of Glenarm Castle, was a fantastic venue and set the stage for a lively celebration.
Setting off from Ayrshire, we took the midday ferry across the water and our first stop was at Susan’s in-laws who live not far from the evening venue. It was nice to spend time with them and we were treated to a delicious homemade meal, including particularly good potatoes (of course!).
It was a treat to be able to bring our Scottish music to many first time ceilidh’ers in Northern Ireland! Courtney and Jack’s guests were well up for it and we squeezed as many of them as we possibly could on to the dance floor. The evening ended with a request from the bride and groom - our version of Randy Travis’ “Forever And Ever Amen”.
We spent the night in Port Stewart at a fantastic Airbnb but unfortunately didn’t get to see too much of the area as we needed to get back for the ferry to Scotland so that we could make ceilidh number 3 in Troon on Sunday evening. You’ll hear more about that in the next blog post.
Congrats again Jack and Courtney! So nice to meet you both and thank you again for having us over. God bless.
